NWO Complexity grant for CeNDEF
The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded a grant of € 500,000 to Cees Diks and Cars Hommes (CeNDEF) for their project "Understanding financial instability through complex systems" within the NWO Complexity programme.

Proposal selected: joint doctorate EDEEM
Kees Jan van Garderen of the FEB's Quantitative Economics department, together with six European partners led by the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, has drawn up an Erasmus Mundus project proposal for a joint doctorate in economics: the European Doctorate in Economics (EDEEM).

New Academy for financial professionals combines theory and practice
The UvA's Amsterdam Business School (ABS), in cooperation with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), have launched an initiative that will offer continuing professional education (CPE) to financial professionals. The initiative, named the Executive Academy, will start in September 2010.

UvA economist to lead international research on inequality
Wiemer Salverda, director of the UvA's Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies (AIAS), will coordinate new international research on the growing inequalities in income and education and the social, political and cultural consequences of this disparity in the European Union, the United States, Japan, Canada and Australia.
